nyquil dreams

i guess i've watched too many indiana jones/national treasure/da vinci code knock-offs lately because last night i dreamt that i had traveled to old europe and ended up in some village with carnival-esque fun-house buildings. kinda scary but not. one of them was a restaurant that had walls that folded out and hid or revealed rooms. it was a bitch to get up and go to the bathroom then find your way back... anyway, i'm blaming noah wylie and his movie, the librarian, for this homage. well, that and the nyquil i had right before bedtime (damn this cold).

it mighta been different had it been this librarian:

does it feel good, baby?

our boys have had a pretty healthy life so far. the only surgery either one has undergone was a little outpatient action for tubes when number two was younger than two. so, we haven't had the pleasure of watching our boys hopped up on the good stuff (although twfkam can tell you stories about me and prescription meds...). but this lucky dad did just that. and he recorded his boy for posterity. enjoy.

post-birthday blues

this year number two's number eleven snuck up on me. i've been so hunkered down that i blinked and it was here. and that makes me sad. you should never be too busy to miss time with/for your kids—it's too damn short to let that happen. i think sometimes we get selfish and do just that. and it's shameful.

last night Rader had a birthday sleepover. i guess we forget how loud and boisterous groups of kids can be, otherwise we'd only let it happen once... but anyway. no incidents. just a late night of home-made pizza, cake, xbox and screeching/howling followed by an early morning of pumpkin spice pancakes and breakfast links.

I think they enjoyed themselves pretty well. although with eleven year olds, it's hard to tell sometimes.

yesterday as rader and i were running errands, we had stopped off at walmart to get his glasses fixed and there was this older guy wrangling a couple of young kids 4 or 5 yrs old. i flashed back and looked over at Rader (who had wandered off to the shelves of frames and was busy putting on various designs and making faces at himself in the mirror and giggling) and tried to remember wrangling him when he was that age. and i miss it. alot. but, wrangling him at this age is also fun, just different.

so, i put out to you, the interwebs, a brief playlist in honor of our now eleven year old monkey, taken from the monkey cd I made for him:

Monkey Boy
, by the Hellacopters
Monkey Shines, by Jonathan Coulton
Shock the Monkey, by Peter Gabriel

wear it like a cape

been a cold-ass couple of days here in the penis cave (aka the office den). overcast and wet and cold. the boys were home from school yesterday as the powers that be erred on the side of caution and closed the schools. and of course the meager ice was all gone by 9am. so, in addition to work stress i now had to deal with brothers dwelling in close proximity to each other...

anyway. i survived. now it's nose to the grindstone with Pandora tuned to my Del Fuegos station. Here's a sampling of what's been served up so far:

The Del Fuegos - Wear It Like A Cape
REM - Catapult
Chris Spedding - Motorbiking
Warren Zevon - When Johnny Strikes Up
The Traveling Wilburys - Handle With Care
Buffalo Tom - Rachel
Morrissey - Interesting Drug
Pico vs Island Tree - Love Again

beat of your own drum

i've been away just being busy. and lazy. and facebookin’. so this here blog has withered. that's a shame. and believe it or not, folks are askin’ about my whereabouts.

twfkam was talking about what your internal playlist would be/is and that got me thinking. i'm all over the place depending on life and the moment. but this week, though (and i guess it really changes week to week for most folks), i’ve struck some sonic gold (in no particular order):

it’s funny how zo2 often ends up on my playlist, but it’s usually with the song "isolate." those guys are an amazing rock band. and, as i’ve learned this morning, are pulling double duty as the band in the IFC series "z rock." makes me love ’em even more.

take a moment to check out some of the above and expand your internal drumkit. let me know how your beat goes on.
